Venous Treatment
Salem Vein Center's specialized doctors use state-of-the-art medical technology for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. The proper treatment will greatly depend upon the exact nature of your problem. Some of the most common treatments are:
Sclerotherapy
This is considered the most effective treatment for removing unwanted and unsightly veins. From the small purple spider veins to the largest varicose veins, sclerotherapy is a procedure in which a solution is directed into the vein with minimal discomfort. The solution causes the vein to close and the body then naturally removes it. Patients can usually return to work the same day as treatment. The procedure is performed in the clinic in sessions that last approximately 20 minutes. The number of sessions required will depend upon the amount and extent of veins present. Slight bruising and some discoloration may occur, but usually resolves within a few weeks.
Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy
This type of sclerotherapy uses the same injection techniques as regular sclerotherapy with the addition of the guidance of an ultrasound machine. This is used for treatment of deeper veins that cannot be seen on the surface of the skin.
Catheter-Based Surgery
The newest techniques in removing varicose veins involve catheter directed therapies. A small catheter is used to heat the inside of the vein and allow the vein to collapse. The body then absorbs the vein, similar to that of sclerotherapy. These techniques eradicate varicose veins of the leg without incisions.
Catheter-based procedures are done with local anesthesia in our clinic. With each procedure, normal activities can usually resume within a few days.
The doctors at Salem Vein Center have performed over 1,000 catheter-based procedures and were the very first clinic in Oregon to do so.
